‘Tis the time of year for auto shows. In Michigan, the world-famous Detroit Auto Show is in full swing, providing the world with a first glance at some of the newest and coolest cars on deck to be released in the next few years. Less famous, but still pretty important is the Utah International Auto Expo, which took place for 2010 over the past weekend. There was one overwhelming theme at play during the show, and that was the environment. Ironically enough, those consumers visiting the auto show had to drive through what was described as an impenetrable cloud of smog to get there.

At the show, people were able to get up close and personal to the newest cars. Sports car enthusiasts could ooh and ahh at power stroke engines, and families with lots of kids could pile into a passenger van to get a sense for how it would fit their brood. Gearheads got all the specs on the newest production models, and photographers snapped pictures of shiny chasses and chrome wheels. All the time, many of the show’s participants were thinking about the air outside. In this day and age, the “green” movement has really gained full momentum, and creating cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles is a very real concern on everyone’s minds, because it is a very real concern on the minds of consumers.

Consumers are now much more aware of their personal impact on the environment around them. The choices they make in terms of transportation all play into this – whether it’s riding the bus versus buying a new car, or trading in that big gas-guzzler for one of the very popular hybrid models.
